Many people wait until the last minute to book their move-out cleaning, only to find there’s no availability. A week in advance is NOT enough—to secure a spot, book at least 3 weeks ahead to avoid scrambling or doing it yourself!
This also applies to holiday and event cleanings—early planning ensures a stress-free experience.
The Reality of Move-Out Cleanings
I want to bring attention to move-out cleanings and why they are significantly more expensive than regular maintenance cleanings, such as weekly, biweekly, or monthly services. Many people assume, “The home is empty, so it should be quick and easy.” That couldn’t be further from the truth.
Our last move-out cleaning took 14 man-hours, even though I originally estimated 10 at most. Deep cleaning an empty home is an intense process, and every step requires thorough effort.
Why Move-Out Cleanings Take So Much Time
- Kitchen: Cleaning inside and out of ovens, refrigerators, and cabinets takes at least one hour each. Pulling out appliances to clean behind them reveals stuck-on grime, food drippings, and years of buildup. Removing that requires abrasive scrubbing, elbow grease, and extra cleaning tools.
- Bathrooms: Soap scum, hair buildup, and stubborn toilet rings demand specialized products and serious scrubbing.
- Cobweb Removal: This isn't just a quick sweep—it means clearing every corner, wall crease, door frame, high vent, and light fixture. This process alone takes 45 minutes to an hour.
- Doors & Baseboards: Washing doors and baseboards can be relatively easy—unless they’re covered in grime, in which case it’s pure scrubbing mode.
- Windows & Tracks: Window tracks often have years of neglected dirt. Cleaning them properly requires vacuuming, washing, and polishing.
- Ceiling Fans: Some can be dusted with a simple wipe. Others? They have a thick layer of stuck-on greasy dirt that needs scraping.
- Floors: First, anything left behind such as bottle caps, bobby pins. nails we pick up. Then we edge the floors to clean where a vacuum can’t reach. Then, we vacuum and mop—twice—scrubbing off anything stuck.
By the time the cleaning is complete, the crew can barely walk. Move-out cleanings physically take a toll on the cleaners, and that’s one reason why they come at a higher price.
Cheap rates may mean cutting corners, while more expensive rates reflect the quality of work and attention to detail.
